Home Health Aide (HHA) Certification

Home health aide (HHA) certification is available through training programs approved by the New York State Department of Health or by educational providers and schools approved by the New York State Education Department. The minimum training requirements include at least 75 hours of instruction and 16 hours of direct observation of required skills, including 8 hours with a patient. Certified HHAs must work at least 16 hours every two years to maintain certification. If the license expires, the HHAs must be retrained or complete a Competency Evaluation Program to reassess their skills and receive a new certificate.
