English as a Second Language

Our English as a Second Language (ESL) Program offers eight levels of English classes to improve home care workers’ communication skills and help them pursue educational and professional opportunities. The Education Fund created its own ESL textbook, How Are You Doing Today?, along with a curriculum tailored to the specific needs of home care workers. Through interactive classes and topics related to home care, students learn English in a contextual learning environment. Every fall, students also conduct a research project on a health topic. In this way, they develop language skills and gain knowledge that benefits them both on a personal and professional level. Every spring, we celebrate the students’ progress in learning English by publishing a booklet of student writing.
