George A. Nicolau

George A. Nicolau is a former president of both the National Academy of Arbitrators and the Society of Professionals in Dispute Resolution. Nicolau started out as a labor lawyer, representing locals of the International Typographical Union, the New York Newspaper Printing Pressmen’s Union and the Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers (OCAW) Union. Over time, Nicolau became a mediator before he branched out in 1969 to become an arbitrator. Nicolau is known to many as Major League Baseball’s main arbitrator throughout much of the 1980s and 1990s.
